Harmonova

Creating - Playing - Perfecting

Harmonova is the only app you need to support your harmonica journey from learning your first notes to mastering your favourite songs.

Harmonova turns what you play into proper harmonica tab and notation instantly — no manual transcription, no cloud, no account, no subscriptions.

Harmonova is designed to help you learn, practise and perfect your harmonica playing. However you prefer to learn, books, videos, with a tutor or by ear. Harmonova contains the tools to help you get to the next level.

With Harmonova, you can:

Record and transcribe in real time

Play into your mic and watch the notes land on the staff as you go — blows, draws, and chords, on the right holes.

Edit your notation

Drag to change pitch, adjust timing, fix a stray note — the sheet is fully editable, with undo/redo.

Play it back with real harmonica samples

Hear your piece back with pre-recorded harmonica samples or ones you record yourself. Then you can check that your music sounds the way you meant.

Practise with a score

Practise mode listens to you play a piece and scores how close you got — so you can track real improvement.

Set up your own instruments

Customise Harmonova to match your harmonica collection. Harmonova supports a wide range of hole counts, custom tunings and comes preconfigured for the most popular keys.

Play anywhere

You can configure Harmonova for all the places you play. Setting up environments and calibrating your instruments in those environments means note detection is always as accurate as possible.

Transcribe audio files

Got an audio file? Harmonova can suggest which harmonica key plays it and draw out its tablature.

Music Book library

Keep all your pieces in one place, ready to play, practise or edit.

Privacy first

Your audio and your music never leave your device. Transcription and playback happen entirely on your device.

You don't need to create an account, supply your email address or phone number. Harmonova doesn't need it, so never asks for it.

Harmonova can track usage and performance metrics to help improve the app. The app can also send crash reports if things go really wrong. Both these features are off by default, you need to opt-in to help make the experience better.

You can export all the data you create in Harmonova at any time to a file. You can then copy that file locally, to a cloud service, another device or share with a friend. What you do with your data is entirely up to you.

FAQ

Does it need an internet connection?

No — recording, transcription, and playback all work offline, on your device.

Do I need an account?

No accounts are needed to use Harmonova. You will need an account for the app store(s) you choose to purchase through: Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc.

What harmonicas does it support?

Diatonic and Chromatic harmonicas are supported. Harmonova supports harmonicas with between 4 and 24 holes. Each hole can be individually calibrated for blowing and drawing. Bends are supported where appropriate. If you have custom tuning, you can configure it in the app.

Does it record or keep my audio?

Audio is processed on your device and is never uploaded. See the Privacy Policy. Harmonova does record your playing while calibrating your instrument. These recordings are used to play back songs you record with the instrument. These recordings are never shared but you can export the instrument with the recordings to use on other platforms or share with friends.

Is it free?

Harmonova is not free but it is priced at a fraction of the cost of a professional harmonica. Harmonova is designed to help you with your journey and want it to be accessible to as many people as possible.

Can I share my music?

Yes! You can export your music sheets to share with friends or import into other software. Harmonova uses a human-readable tab format. Backups and exports use zip files that are easily readable by most operating systems. Harmonova does keep recordings of you playing songs. The only audio recorded of you playing is during instrument callibration where single note samples are captured. These sounds are used for when you want to playback a piece so you can hear the melody you want to practice as if it were coming from your instrument.

Can I use it on multiple devices?

Yes, you can install Harmonova on multiple devices using the same app store account. Separate purchases will be needed to use across platforms like MacOS and Windows.
